Jinglu Tan, PhD, is jointly appointed and has administrative responsibilities in both the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR) and the College of Engineering (CoE).
The joint appointment is partially due to the two colleges co-owning the Department of Biomedical, Biological & Chemical Engineering. Because the two colleges have different administrative structures, Tan has a different scope of responsibilities in each college.
In CAFNR, Tan is the director for the Division of Food Systems and Bioengineering (FSB). CAFNR divides its programs into six administrative divisions, of which Food Systems and Bioengineering is one. The other five divisions are: Animal Sciences, Biochemistry, School of Natural Resources, Plant Sciences and Applied Social Sciences. Each division has a director who reports to the vice chancellor and dean of the College.
FSB includes multiple academic departments, centers and programs. There are three academic programs in the division:
Each program is led by a department chair or leader. Tan is also the co-chair for Biomedical, Biological & Chemical Engineering.
Academically, the Biomedical, Biological & Chemical Engineering program is administered by the CoE, and the other programs are managed by CAFNR.
The extension programs residing in the division cover an array of outreach activities ranging from water quality, precision agriculture, rural safety and health, waste management and value-added processing to food safety.
